Mision and Vision


Our association, The Student Association of Computer Science (AECC for our acronym in spanish), is committed to providing all computer science students with the space and tools necessary to educate and develop themselves according to their interests and the careers that they want to pursue in the future. By making workshops, fundraising activities, hackathons, and other events possible, we want to establish a solid community of excellent computer science students in Puerto Rico and future prepared professionals in the workforce.

Payment of the $20 annual ACM membership fee, grants you the following benefits:
  • An official membership to the AECC
  • Access to our high-speed WiFi network
  • Access to a secure and private server used for storing or testing out your assignments or proyects
  • Low cost printing
  • Complimentary microwave usage
  • Access to the AECC's physical and digital library, free of charge
  • Membership to the AECC's mailing list
  • Membership to the UPRRP's ACM Chapter and all the benefits that an ACM membership entails

Payment of the $5 annual AECC membership grants you all the benefits mentioned above except the ACM membership and all of it's benefits.
The Association for Computing Machinery is the world's largest computing association. Comprised of various chapters around the world, its purpose is to unite computing associations worldwide and raise awareness about the technical, educational, and social issues in the world of technlology. ACM supports the professional growth of its members by providing opportunities for life‐long learning, career development, and professional networking. We recommend you learn more about the ACM from their site!
Some of the benefits of an ACM membership are:
  • Being a part of the ACM Mailing List and receiving important articles in the computing community
  • Access to the ACM Digital Library
  • A year's subscription to each of the ACM's journals and magazines in digital or physical format
  • A free @acm.org email address
  • Free access to software thanks to the ACM Student Academic Initiative

Other issues

The AECC's funds are primarily used in the preparations of activities, the purchase and rent of equipment for said activities, and to meet the needs of the services provided by our educational resources. The AECC is a non-profit and all uses of our funds are used to the benefit of our members.

About our parent Computer Science Department

In our department's Computer Science major, knowing how to program is only the start of the journey. The major focuses on the analysis, and optimization of solutions, and the computability of problems. The knowledge you gain in this major doesn't limit you only to software development. Instead, this knowledge can be applied to a great number of fields such as scientific research, network administration, bioinformatics, statistics, game development, and many other fields.
The major requires passing 130 credits where 48 of these credits are from CS courses.
Our department covers a variety of topics such as network analysis, bioinformatics, cryptography, more mathematical topics, and many topics inside or related to Computer Science.
